With over 1,200 members, St. Cuthbert’s Society is the largest organisation in Durham University. The Society remains headquartered in the Bailey with major sites close by at Brooks House and Parsons Field House and a significant number of students living out or at home. Not surprisingly, its rapid growth in recent years has meant the Society has not been able to provide its members with the central facilities it would wish. However, it is currently discussing with the University a proposal to construct a multi-purpose “community hub for the diverse community of St. Cuthbert’s” on land at No. 13, South Bailey. A feasibility study has been commissioned from architects and should be available later in the Summer.

The St. Cuthbert’s Society Trust has been created to develop educational opportunities for students, to assist their clubs and societies and to improve buildings, equipment and other assets. The community hub project is currently at the top of its agenda. The St. Cuthbert’s Association weekend, accommodated in the Bailey, has been gathering momentum in recent years. It has long been a fixture with the Refounders Group who got the Society going again after World War Two. The event has widened its appeal to all age groups.

The 2011 gathering will be held from Friday, September 9th to Sunday, September 11th. The main elements will be the Association AGM, an update on the building project and a formal dinner. All Association members are invited to attend.

Booking arrangements

The Society is providing accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights but there are no dining arrangements on the Friday evening. Lunch will be provided on Saturday subject to demand.

Bed and Breakfast: £25.00 per night for a standard single, £45.00 per night for a standard twin

Saturday 10th September

Bed and Breakfast: £25.00 per night for a standard single, £45.00 per night for a standard twin

Lunch: £10.00 through the servery

Dinner: £25.00 including wine and reception drink on arrival
