Invitation

All alumni are invited to attend the Association Weekend at the Society on South Bailey, Durham between 10 and 12th September 2010. The weekend will involve much nostalgia as well as a special plaque will be unveiled and dedicated to the Refounders of the Society, the Annual Dinner and Annual General Meeting. Dinner and Accomodation can be booked through the Society.

Items to discuss

Rising print costs and increasing membership have rendered the customary newsletters too expensive. The main means of communication has to be electronic: e-mailings and the complementary website www.cuths.org

Much has happened at the Society. With nearly 1200 members, 450 of whom live in either on the Bailey or at Parsons Field, it has become a full college of the University, while retaining its name. Association members continue to make their marks in politics, sport, the media and the military, on stage and in films, as authors and eccentrics. Inevitably, some have passed on. The website is packed with information about people and developments.

To complement Henry Tudor's 'St. Cuthbert's Society 1888-1998' former Principal Bernard Robertson has written his own account of developments in the years 1989-2003. The book is going for final editing and we understand will be published shortly. The Durham weekend is the main event in the Association's calendar. This year it will take place at 12 South Bailey from Friday to Sunday, September 10th to 12th. Activities will include the AGM but centre on the Refounders' Group who got the Society going again after World War Two. A plaque will be unveiled and a formal dinner held to recognise their role in the Society's development.

Photos of the cohorts from 1946 to 1970 will be on display in the dining hall with additional archive material in the SCR. We are looking to increase our photographic archives and so would ask anyone attending to bring along any photos of their time at Cuth’s including old year group pictures that may sit well in these archives. We have the facility to take copies for those wishing to keep hold of the originals. It is planned to offer prints of old year groups for sale where possible.
