Event Details

New summer date

The 2017 edition of the alumni reunion weekend is moving to a summer date just after congregation ceremonies for our new alumni.

Recent and not-so-recent Cuths alumni will descend upon South Bailey between Friday 7th and Sunday 9th July 2017 for a weekend of good company and good weather (we can at least guarantee the former).

We encourage everyone to pull together their friends, sports teams, societies, buddies from the bar, course mates, and your better halves to take full advantage of a weekend in and around 12 South Bailey.

Itinerary and entertainment

The weekend kicks off with an informal drinks reception on Friday night as people congregate back in Durham after their pilgrimage back to the northeast. We encourage you to wear your favourite branded Cuths merchandise! The morning after the night before sees breakfast in the dining hall and a yet-to-be-determined events for Saturday afternoon. Note that we are undertaking an exciting trial of holding the Association AGM in London (for the first time?) which will see it in a new slot before the Founders' Dinner on Saturday 28th October [see below].

The highlight of the weekend is the flagship formal dinner on Saturday night in the dining hall, with fantastic food prepared by the catering staff, before heading into Cuths Bar for some post-dinner entertainment.

The itinerary this year sees the addition of an informal lunch on Sunday afternoon at the Market Tavern - birthplace of St Cuthbert's Society in 1888. Many people have long journeys back home on Sunday, but if you are able to stick around for a lunchtime debrief on the weekend, we will convene there from noon before saying our farewells and see-you-again-soons.

 

All of this means the itinerary looks like:

  • Friday evening 6pm – Principal’s drinks reception and canapés in the SCR. Wear your favourite branded Cuths kit or stash!
  • Friday evening 9pm – Entertainment in Cuths bar
  • Saturday morning – Breakfast in the dining hall
  • Saturday afternoon 12pm – Lunch, afternoon tea, and lots or time to catch up and (re-)explore Durham
  • Saturday evening 6.30pm for 7pm - Formal dinner in the dining hall, including a bit of a sing song, before retiring to Cuths Bar for evening entertainment and some live music
  • Sunday morning - Breakfast in the dining hall, and departures
  • Sunday afternoon 12pm – Lunch in the Market Tavern

Bookings and price

Price depends on which of the above activities you want to attend - there are options for you to opt-in to any of the activities, including breakfast, drinks and dinners.

Alumni Association AGM

The Alumni Association holds an Annual General Meeting which has been held in various years on Cuths Day [in June, before the end of Easter term] and most recently in September during the Alumni Reunion Weekend.

As a trial in 2017, we have taken the exciting decision to hold the Association AGM in London which will see it in a new slot before the Founders' Dinner on Saturday 28th October. We hope that this will enable more alumni to become involved in the Association and alumni life, given the large number of alumni resident in London and the South East.
